Class 55 Deltic No. D9016 'Gordon Highlander' arrives at Newcastle Central station on 31st July 1965 with the 10:00 London King's Cross to Edinburgh service 'The Flying Scotsman', wearing the 'Winged Thistle' headboard. No. D9016 was renumbered as No. 55016 in 1974 and withdrawn at the end December 1981 after 20 years service. In 2022 No. D9016 can be found stored at LSL One:One Collection Museum at Margate.
