Rothley signal box on the Great Central Railway works absolute block on the double line to the north of the station. The single line south to Leicester North is worked as one engine in steam with train staff. It has a 20 lever Railway Signal Company frame with direct tappet locking (this company supplied most GCR London Extension signal box frames). This is a jug handle type frame which has the clasps located at the front of the levers, seen on 14th August 2019.
