Aberystwyth Cliff Railway, which opened in 1896, is the work of Croyden Marks. Operating originally on the water balance system, the 778 feet undulating track guides titled carriages. It was built to ferry Victorian holidaymakers the 430 feet to the summit of Constitution Hill and the delight of Lunar Park, which, in its heyday, boasted a bandstand, a swithchback railway, a glittering ballroom and tearoom. Today a powerful electric motor hauls the carriages up at a steady pace, giving passengers the opportunity to appreciate the panoramic view over the historic university town in Ceredigion, Wales. Seen here on 3rd October 2018.
