At the time the sole surviving class 05 No. 97803 is seen stabled at Ryde St John's Road on the Isle of Wightline on 2nd 3rd July 1983. Built by Hunslet, the 0-6-0 shunter was introduced as D2554 in March 1956 at Parkeston Quay depot. Renumbered to 05001 and then departmental 97803, the locomotive was withdrawn in September 1983 and is now preserved on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
