Railway Herald
Steam locomotive Minør is on static display at Reykjavík harbour. Built in Germany by Jung in 1892 tom gauge, it was imported to Iceland in 1913 to transport materials for construction of the harbour breakwaters. The railway closed in 1928. Iceland does not have a public railway system although historically there have been three small industrial railways, but none have become part of the public transport network. The harsh environment, small population and high car ownership are major factors in the absence of railways in Iceland, although a high speed link to KeflavÃk International Airport is under consideration.
