Gresley A4 No. 4468 'Mallard' approaches Neville Hill TMD with the return working of the RCTS 1928 - 1988 Diamond Jubilee Railtour which ran from York via Leeds to Manchester and return on 30th July 1988. The holder of the World Speed Record for steam locomotives had been returned to steam by the National Rail Museum in 1985 after a light restoration which limited her to a maximum of 30 steamings. This RCTS special was her penultimate Railtour, the final one taking place just under a month later on 27th August 1988 over the Settle & Carlisle line, on the completion of which No. 4468 'Mallard' had her fire dropped for the very last time upon her return to York.
