The North Eastern was originally planned to be hauled by LNER Class V2 No. 4771 Green Arrow from Leeds to Appleby and then Carlisle to Eaglecliffe via Newcastle but in the event the chosen locos were LNER Class K1 No. 2005 and LMS Class 5 No. 5305 which operated the train throughout from Leeds to Newcastle via the S&C and Carlisle. The pair provide a fine sight taking the curve at the former Skipton North Junction( where the Colne Branch originally converged) on 26th July 1986
