Brand new and on test Class 254 HST No. 254022 is seen on the down main line waiting for an unknown Class 47/4 to pass from the up main and enter Darlington Station on 25th August 1978. Several Class 101 DMU's are stabled on Darlington MPD to the left of the image along with two snowploughs while in the yard to the right 2 Class 08's a Class 31 and a Class 37 are stabled between duties. The HST had recently arrived from the south and was waiting to cross back onto the up main and resume it's test working southbound.
