Class 40 No. 40126 is seen stabled under the spotlights inside the north end of Motherwell MPD alongside Class 27/0 No. 27019 on Sunday 2nd April 1978. Delivered as EE Type 4 No. D326 in December 1960 she gained notoriety by being the locomotive involved in the Great Train Robbery when a gang of criminals stopped and robbed the overnight Glasgow to London mail train near Linslade, Buckinghamshire on 8th August 1963. Withdrawn in February 1984 while allocated to Carlisle Kingmoor TMD, BR lost no time in disposing of her and she was scrapped at BREL Doncaster during that April. Class 27/0 No. 27019 lead a more routine existence, being delivered new to Glasgow Eastfield MPD as Type 2 No. D5365 in December 1961 and withdrawn from the same Depot during May 1984. Towed to BREL Swindon Works she was scrapped there in May 1985.
