Shropshires direct link to the capital has been restored! With a ringing endorsement from Richard Branson himself, Virgin Class 221 Super Voyager No. 221143, temporarily named Wrekin Giant, passes the hamlet of Preston two miles into the first journey, the 15:24 Shrewsbury to London Euston service on 14th December 2014. Following the cessation of services by the Wrexham and Shropshire Railway on 28th January 2011, Shropshire was the only mainland English county to have no direct link to London, until today!
