Saturday 6th May 1978 finds Class 20 No. 20146 stabled next to the Shed Foremans office on Ayr MPD attached to sister Class 20 No. 20036. Both Type 1 locomotives were built at the EE Vulcan Foundry at Newton-le-Willows Lancashire as No. D8146 in June 1966 and No. D8036 in October 1959. Neither survive today No. 20146 being withdrawn in December 1988 and cut up by MC Metals in Glasgow during April 1989 while No. 20036 was withdrawn in June 1984 and scrapped at BREL Springburn Works during August 1986. Although it is early May No. 20146 still has mini snow ploughs attached from the previous winter. The floodlight visible above No. 20036 is from Ayr United Football Ground, the Depot only being illuminated at night by small lights like the one visible above the cab of No. 20146.
