When Network Rail inspect Merseyrail lines, once or twice a year, Class 73 locomotives are used. On such a working on 14th June 2014 Network Rail yellow Class 73 No. 73138 and GB Railfreight-liveried Class 73/2 73213 "Rhodalyn" top and tail on the 23:09 departure from Crewe the previous evening, travelling through the Merseyrail northern line stations of Southport, Hunts Cross, Kirkby, and Ormskirk, and here seen working back to Derby RTC and passing Tutbury and Hatton station. The Network Rail coaches were DBSO No. 9708 and Radio survey No. 977868.
