My late uncle was signalman at Gargrave for many years and I spent endless happy hours with him in the signalbox hence the position where I stood to take this picture. It illustrates a most unusual event because the train is the Bentham-Skipton Pick Up shunting the yard at Gargrave and at the time it was always headed by one of Skipton's Class 4F 0-6-0's. The 7-0ft diameter driving wheels of an ex MR Class 2P are hardly ideal for such a duty being performed by Skipton allocated 2P No. 40414 on an unrecorded date in 1950.
