Sunday 11th May 1978 finds Class 31/1 No. 31203 sitting in Doncaster Works yard after overhaul with the new Railfreight Grey livery hardly dry. Delivered to BR as No. D5627 during June 1960, renumbering to No. 31203 had taken place at the end of 1973. In 1975 she had been allocated to Finsbury Park MPD in London but by 1986 prior to entering Doncaster Works for overhaul had been working from Bescot MPD. Back on the Eastern Region by 1989 based at Immingham TMD a return to Midland duties found No. 31203 operating from Crewe TMD in the early nineties. Withdrawn during July 2000 and placed in store at Old Oak Common Depot she was later purchased for preservation. Initially this was at the Chasewater Railway, later the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway and currently No. 31203 can be found at Nemesis Rail, Burton-on-Trent where she carries BR Green livery and her old BR No. D5627.
