Electrification of the line from Lisbon to Faro necessitated the introduction of station footbridges spoiling the old world charm of Albufeira - Ferreiras and other stations. Taken on 22nd April 2013 it was noted that the only useful purpose served by the footbridge was the provision of sites for House Martins nests. Pedestrians still crossed the permanent way as they had always done.
