This morning the 05:46 Exeter St Davids - London Paddington, at speed, struck a car on a level crossing near Athelney, killing the car driver. At 12:10 the stock was released to run ECS from Taunton to Laira Depot as 5A73, seen here, in torrential rain, en route back to Laira. The bogie side steps are badly dmaged as is the front bogie corners, piping had to be repaired on the power car before it was fit to travel. Remarkably, at the impact, the train did not derail.
