The Hundred Foot Washes, straddling the Cambridgeshire-Norfolk border, are one of the jewels of Fenland. Barely half a mile wide, but stretching for 20 miles from Earith in the south to near Denver Sluice in the North, they are a haven for wildlife, especially wildfowl. The railway line between Ely and Peterborough is the only crossing point for miles in either direction. Here, a CrossCountry Trains Class 170 DMU heads across the Washes towards a stop at nearby Manea with the 17:27 departure from Stansted Airport to Birmingham New Street on 24th July 2012.
