86259 sits in platform 4c at Preston on the afternoon of 18 February 2012 between duties on the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express. The locomotive had hauled the railtour to Carnforth where it handed over to a pair of Black 5s for the second leg to Carlisle. The 86 set off later in the afternoon to Farington Jct where it waited to takeover from the Black 5s on the return leg. It was interesting to see a locomotive in the sidings at Farington Jct for the first time in many years and the light display between the pantograph and contact wire on a cold, dry evening confirmed that belief.
