In 2004, a shortage of DMUs caused Valley Lines to hire in locos and stock to cover certain peak time services on the Rhymney Branch. On Saturday 22nd May 2004, EWS Class 37/4 No. 37417 is seen working one such service on the approach to Ystrad Mynach Station with a three coach set of former Virgin MkII stock at 15.30 hrs.
