With Direct Rail Services losing the contract to operate test trains on behalf of Network Rail, scenes like this will soon pass into the history books. This is DRS Compass liveried Class 37, No. 37608 leading 1Q16, an 09:40 Doncaster - Doncaster test train which ran via the ECML 'Slow lines' to London King's Cross (The previous day the same consist operated an almost identical schedule albeit utilising the Fast Lines). Classmate 37610 tails the 4-coach train which includes the unique test coach 'Mentor'. Pictured approaching Holme Level Crossing just to the South of Peterborough, the driver has the locos working hard to make up the 10 minute delay caused by congestion in the Peterborough area.
