With the Minster visible in the background, class A3 No. 4472 'Flying Scotsman' makes a stirring departure from York in August 1984 with an empty stock working which I believe was destined for Carnforth. The photo was taken from Holgate loading dock, a shot which is not now possible due to housing development on the site.
