The unique Battery Electric Multiple Unit (79998 79999)stands alongside the new platform at Milton of Crathes on the Royal Deeside Railway on 7th June. The BEMU was powered by large lead-acid batteries and was used on the Royal Deeside line from Aberdeen to Ballater in Scotland from 1958. The batteries no longer have suffient power to drive the train so the unit is pushed from behind by a diesel shunter. (Barclay - Works Number 415)
