Afer waiting almost an hour at Hardup Bridge, East of Totnes, for the southbound Royal Duchy steam special on April 5th 2009, I was somewhat surprised to see diesel hydraulic No D1015 Western Champion running light engine up the gradient in the Exeter direction when it was supposed to be on its way to Par. The grapevine reports that 5029 had failed with a hot box at Newton Abbot, so D1015 was on its way to take Nunney Castle's place at the head of the train.
