The first two Colas Rail Class 70/8s arrived in the UK through Liverpool Docks, on board ACL’s Ro/Ro container vessel Atlantic Concert on 4th January 2014.
The locomotives had travelled by rail from GE Transportations plant at Erie, Pennsylvania to Norfolk, Virginia, where they were lifted to ACL’s specialist mafi trailers for stowage inside the Ro/Ro decks of the ship. Following arrival at Liverpool, the discharge operation took a matter of minutes once the on board securing chains had been released.
This is the second time an ACL vessel has carried Class 70s, the previous occasion being for Freightliner, while the company also conveyed the two A4 locomotives in October 2012 for “The Great Gathering” held at NRM, York in 2013.
