Despite the recent influx of Class 197 units, non PRM complient Class 153/9 units still find occassional employment on Class 1 workings. On 3rd September 2024, Transport for Wales Class 153/9 No. 153922 together with PRM complient Class 153/3 No. 153382 head south through Moreton on Lugg with the 12:30 Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central service.
