A most unusual sight of a combination of diesel and steam locomotives on the mainline was seen at Rugeley on 22nd December 2023 as LSL Class 47/4 No. D1924 (47810) 'Crewe Diesel Depot', in two-tone BR green livery, and LMS Stanier Class 5MT 4-6-0 No. 45231 'The Sherwood Forester' double-headed on the 08:49 Southall to Crewe HS ECS working, with an assortment oMk1 and Mk2 coaches.
