On 16th October 2003 a serious collision occurred at Shallowford south of Norton Bridge when 21.54 Ipswich-Trafford Park headed by Freightlirner Class 86's Nos. 86631 & 86611 were in rear collision with 21.15 Grain-Trafford Park headed by a Freightliner Class 66.This was the scene in the early afternoon following the accident. Both locos were subsequently written off.
