On the 26th January 2020, Merseyrail Class 507 No. 507001 has a short break at Southport while working in conjunction with Merseyrail the Branch Line Society special charter The Merseyrail Overground & Underground Explorer. This ran from Birkenhead North to Southport via the entire! network and helped raise several thousand pounds for the Alder Hay Children's Charity.
