Portrush station is having £5.6 million spent on a refurbishment for the upcoming Open Golf tournament in July. The work includes 3 platforms, and a large ticket hall. Once the four day golf tournament is over services will revert to one train an hour to Coleraine with the train being in the station for jut 10 minutes. Trains can only use platform 2 as the line from Coleraine is treated as one long siding, unless the cabin is swithched on. Local rail staff stated there is only employer trained in the use of the cabin! So platforms 1 & 3 will become redundant once again.
