Crossing the Palmiet River, on the approach to Elgin on the morning of 22nd December 2018, is Ceres Rail (former SAR) class 19D 4-8-2 no, 3321 "Jessica". Coupled to it and running in reverse is sister 19D No. 3322. Both locos are oil fired, to avoid veldt fires in the Cape's hot, dry summer.
