For a period in 1990 a DMU shortage resulted in top and tail Class 20s being used on services between Derby and Crewe. On 4th September 1990 Class 20 No. 20166 arrives at Derby, with 20127 on the rear on a service from Matlock to Crewe. No. 20166 survives to this day as part of the HNRC fleet.
