Withdrawn, with all its windows boarded over due to asbestos contamination and with her underfloor engines and ancillary equipment removed Class 126 DMBSL No. 51042 sits in Falkland Yard, Ayr awaiting its call to the breakers yard on 21st May 1983. Built at BR Swindon Works No. 51042 entered service in June 1959 spending all its career locally based at Ayr MPD before withdrawal during August 1982, latterly carrying Scottish Set No. 126412 which can be seen under the drivers window. Eventually dragged to Mayer Newmans Yard in Snailwell, Suffolk it passed through their firing tunnel and the twisted remains were scrapped during November 1983.
