SR U Class Mogul No. 31618 on a siding at Woodham's scrap yard in Barry South Wales in 1968. Having been sold for preservation, this locomotive was removed in January 1969. It was towed by rail to a siding at New Hythe Station near Maidstone, to begin the task of restoration. Two and a half years later 1618 moved to Tenterden on the Kent and East Sussex Railway where it was first re-steamed in 1974.
