Hardly the most wonderful picture, but I was 13 years old when I took it with less than sophisticated equipment and a very rare event which I have never seen recorded. In the spring of 1950 for two weeks only the daytime Edinburgh Waverley-London St Pancras service, the forerunner of the Waverley and the night sleeper from St Pancras to Edinburgh Waverley were worked by Haymarket allocated Class A3 Pacifics between Edinburgh and Leeds via the Waverley and S&C route. On an unrecorded date Class A3 No. 60096 Papyrus arrives at Skipton at 3pm on the Up Train. Pacifics Nos. 60096 & 60087 Blenheim shared the duties for the 2 weeks.
