An unknown Class 26 in BR rail blue livery and already fitted with miniature snow ploughs for the coming winter is seen passing Prestwick Airport, Ayrshire on 28th September 1984. Hauling a short engineering train consisting of 4 bogie open wagons carrying new track panels and a brake van she has just passed through the final approach path for Runway 13 at Prestwick Airport. Low flying aircraft warning signs can be seen on the A79 dual carriageway above the roof of the Class 26. With the completion of the Ayrshire Coast Electrification Project just 2 years later in September 1986 scenes such as this were consigned to become history. Of note on the parallel A79 southbound carriageway is an Alexander bodied Western Scottish Leyland Leopard bus working a limited stop express service from Glasgow to Ayr.
