Class 83 No. 83012 was one of the exhibits at the Open Day held in Crewe Basford Hall Yard on 27th August 1995. By this time the only survivor out of the original class of 15 built by English Electric in the early 1960's at nearby Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows No. 83012 had been withdrawn in March 1989 and purchased for preservation. Her last duties had been on empty stock workings between Euston Station and Willesden Carriage Sidings and as this entailed continually passing through the Carriage Washing Plant she eventually acquired a coat of Inter City livery to hide her bleached BR blue colours. Today she is on display at Barrow Hill Engine Shed restored to BR Electric Blue colours and carries her original AL3 No. E3035.
