Damaged in a derailment at Peterborough in 1975 former Class 47 No. 47046 was used first as a testbed for Class 56 with a Ruston 16cyl diesel engine when it was renumbered 47601 and subsequently was again used as a test bed for Ruston 12cyl diesel engines fitted to Class 58 and then numbered 47901. In this guise it stands in Bescot TMD Yard prior to an Open Day on 5th May 1990.
