With just 4 Kerr Stuart built 'Joffre' 0-6-0WTT Class narrow gauge locomotives in the UK this image illustrates half that total. Both are seen in steam outside the loco-shed at the Apedale Railway, Staffordshire on 22nd May 2016. In dark grey livery outside the shed is locally based No. 3014 built in 1916. Facing it in white lined light grey livery is No. 9 'Joffre' built in 1915 and visiting from the West Lancashire Railway at Hesketh Bank. The Class took it's name from General Joffre, a French general who was Commander-in-Chief of the French Western Front forces during World War 1 where many of these locos worked, moving supplies and ammunition towards the front line. The other 2 members of the Class in the UK are awaiting restoration.
