A general view of Wath Stabling Point, Yorkshire taken on an overcast 18th September 1977. A Class 37 and 47 can be seen outside the two road maintenance building while a row of 11 Class 76 1500V electric locomotives are stabled in the only electrified siding at the depot, the dual braked and multiple working equipped Class 76 on the stops being No. 76015. Wath Marshalling Yard is just visible to the left of the image. The rundown of the area began with the Manchester - Sheffield 'Woodhead' route closure in 1981 and the withdrawl of the remaining Class 76's . Next the diesel stabling point closed in 1983 and finally after the 1984-85 miners strike the local collieries gradually closed down with Wath Marshalling Yard following in 1988. The whole site is now occupied by light industry and residential developments set around a lake making it very difficult to detect that the area was once a large and busy railway establishment.
