One of a class of 49 'electro-diesels' introduced in 1962 and built by Vulcan Foundry to work on the Southern Region. These locos can use either a diesel engine or 750v DC third-rail supply for motive power. Class 73 No. E6036 (73129) is currently based on the GWR and spends most of its time hauling the permanent way train, although it takes its turn on passenger train duties. No. 73129 was withdrawn in 2002 after spending the previous 20 years carrying the name 'City of Winchester'. It is pictured at Toddington on 9th September 2015.
