Seen passing the original East Lancashire Railway MPD at Bury en route to Bury Bolton Street Station on Saturday 2nd May 1992 is Class 40 No. D335. Entering service in March 1961 she spent her entire working life allocated to London Midland Region depots eventually being withdrawn from Longsight MPD Manchester in January 1985. Along with 3 other Class 40's she was re-instated for departmental service as Class 97/4 No. 97406 in May 1985 being used in the remodelling of Crewe Station approaches until final withdrawal in December 1986. Purchased by the Class 40 Preservation Society in May 1988 she was restored and repainted into her original BR green livery as seen in this image in summer 1991. Unusually the centre bodyside access door is open.
