Class 40 No. 40161 is stabled outside the shed foreman's office on Ayr MPD on Wednesday 11th May 1977. New to Haymarket Depot Edinburgh in October 1961 as EE Type 4 No. D361 she would remain allocated to Haymarket all her working life. With the rundown of the Class 40 fleet No. 40161, being vacuum only braked, was an early candidate for disposal. Withdrawn in December 1980, after just 19 years service, she was towed to BREL Swindon Works for scrapping which took place during June 1981.
