When first opened in 1913 the BLS Mainline Mountain section between Spiez and Brig was single line apart from through the Lotschberg Tunnel and was converted to double track between 1976 and 1992. An unrecorded BLS Class Re4/4 crosses the original Kander Viaduct north of Frutigen on 14:01 Brig-Basel on 3rd March 1994. The new southbound viaduct makes an obvious contrast to the old on 3rd March 1994.
