On Saturday 3rd June 1978 Class 83 No. 83013 is seen stabled in Mossend Yard near Motherwell, Scotland. Entering service during February 1961 as AL3 No. E3303 with special gearing for working freight services she was later renumbered as No. E3098 when rebuilt as a standard member of the class. Never the most reliable of the original fleet of 100 AC electric locos the whole class of 15 locos were placed into store at Bury Steam Shed between 1967 and 1971 due to the introduction of the AL6, later Class 86, locomotives. With the WCML electrification being extended to Scotland the class were reinstated, rebuilt, fitted with dual brakes and renumbered under TOPS as Class 83. Along with several other class members No. 83013 was stored at Longsight Depot Manchester in the Autumn of 1982. Withdrawn while still stored in Manchester No. 83013 was taken to Vic Berry's Yard in Leicester and scrapped there during October 1984.
