In Railfreight grey with red solebar livery Class 31/1 No. 31159 is seen passing through Crewe Station on Thursday 4th October 1990. The loco has come from the Chester direction with a single Shark ZUV Brake Van No. DB993726 attached. Built by Brush Traction at Loughborough and delivered to BR during December 1959 as Type 2 No. D5577 she became a Class 31/1 No. 31159 under TOPS in the early 1970s. By the time of this photo she was allocated to Crewe Diesel Depot where No. 31159 remained until a heavy shunt on 31st March 1996 put the loco into store at Peak Forest with a severly damaged cab. Repairs were not authorised and she was withdrawn in June 1996 with dismantling being undertaken by MC Metals Glasgow the same month.
