Class 309 No. 309616 behind 309623 & 309617 on a Manchester Piccadilly - Clacton charter on 13th May 2000 at Colchester. The 309's were built at BR York in 1962-63 a total of 23 units.The final 7 units were withdrawn in 2000. Two units 309616 and 309624 went into departmental use in 2001 until withdrawal in 2004 and finally preservation in 2009.
