British Railways introduced Corporate blue livery to its diesel fleet in 1966 so by 1978, 12 years later, a green-liveried diesel was a rare sight. Here we see Class 20 No. 20020 in green livery, if looking a little neglected, on Sunday 2nd April 1978 stabled on Motherwell MPD. Built by RSH at their Darlington factory in October 1959 as Type 1 No. D8020, she had been transferred to Scotland from the Eastern Region in January 1967. Moving back down to Tinsley in the 1970's she had returned to Scotland, as Class 20 No. 20020, by 1978. A final move south would see the loco allocated to Toton TMD in the late 1980's from where No. 20020 was withdrawn in October 1990. Subsequently purchased for preservation in 1992 by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society No. 20020 can still be found at Bo'ness today.
