Early morning at Wernigerode Depot on Tuesday the 1st July 2014 finds 4 of the Harz Mountain Railway fleet of 2-10-2T locomotives being prepared for service on the Brocken Line. In the foreground is No. 99 7240-7 built in the mid 1950s, and behind are two similar locos Nos. 99 7241-5 and 99 7237-3. The loco on the left is the sole remaining prototype of three built in 1931 No. 99 222 and close examinanation shows many detail differances between it and the production versions. The Second World War caused the long gap in the building program but eventually 17 production locos were built Nos. 99 7231 to 99 7247 and all can now be found on the Harz System. The other 2 prototypes Nos 99 221 and 99 223 saw service in Norway during World War 2 and were eventually scrapped.
