On the southern borders of the Harz Mountains in the former East Germany lies Eisfelder Talmuhle Station. Apparently in the middle of nowhere it is nevertheless an important junction station on the extensive Harz Mountain Railway. In this view taken on Tuesday 1st July 2014 all 3 Platforms are in use for connecting services. In Platform 1 2-10-2T No. 99 7237-3 on the left will form the 1702 departure for Nordhausen Nord at the southern end of the system, while in Platform 3 sits 2-6-2T No. 99 6001-4 also, rather inconveniently for photographers, with a 1702 departure but this time to Quedlinburg, 53km away to the north east. Central on Platform 2 sits Railcar No. 187016-1 which will form the 1743 departure southbound for Ilfield where it will connect with the local Harz Railway operated Tram services around Nordhausen. These are the last steam services of the day to call at Eisfelder Talmuhle, the remaining services being operated by Railcars.
