Starbeck allocated LNER Class J39 No. 64706 plods up the grade on the outskirts of Skipton with a Heysham Moss Sidings-Haverton Hill liquefied Ammonia Train in 1949, with Embsay Junction Up Distant visible in rear of the train. This train which ran 6 days a week was hauled by an LMS loco to Skipton and the LNER loco then worked the train via the Ilkley Branch, Arthington, Harrogate and the Leeds Northern line via Ripon to Northallerton. All now a memory. The train was distinctive because the liquefied Ammonia caused the outside of the tanks to be covered in ice.
